Manufacturing Engineer works closely with and supports the production team by providing technical support on issues related to the build. Builds include but are not limited to concept, prototype, pilot, first and production builds. ME will assist production with the first and subsequent builds of new systems and proto type designs; prepare proposed design changes or revisions and assist with accuracy audits and root cause analysis, as well as participate in Kaizen and continuous improvement events.
Assists production with the first and subsequent builds of new systems or revisions to existing systems.
Assists with proto type designs ensuring they are ready prior to going into production.
Provides point of use routing and the assembly sequence for all components through the subassembly and assembly line.
Prepares proposed design changes or revisions to correct the current design.
Continually identifies, suggests and implements cost reduction projects to reduce the overall cost of the build.
Assists with audits that measure the bill of material and routing accuracies; identifying root cause of inaccuracies.
Reviews tooling and fixture needs to improve the assembly process.
Researches the latest technology and manufacturing practices or identifies improvements to current technology/practices/processes and introduces these into production.
Attends Kaizen events where a cross functional team will review given areas and make marked improvements in process.
Where possible, becomes the subject matter expert (SME) for a given system (engine/transmission, electrical, air delivery, etc.) and provides assistance on such system to other MEs on the team.
Prepares documentation for production as needed to ensure builds match design and customer requirements (procedures, work instructions, visual aids, etc.)
Provides engineering support to identify and/or implement solutions in production to address issues identified in quality inspections/audits or in the field by customers/service.
Required Skills and Experience
Accredited engineering degree or acceptable equivalent of education and/or experience.
English language fluency (read, write, speak and understand).
Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and documentation (e.g. blue prints).
Self-motivated with ability to work with minimal supervision.
Good computer skills: typing, ability to use of Microsoft Office and Windows, etc.
Analysis and problem solving, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Able to manage multiple simultaneous demands, while meeting deadlines.
Desired Skills and Experience
Accredited Industrial Engineering degree, Manufacturing Engineering degree or other accredited engineering degree such as Mechanical or Electrical engineering degree.
Two to five years’ experience in a manufacturing setting. Manufacturing engineering experience in transportation, automotive, farm equipment or aerospace/aviation industry is a plus.
Familiarity/experience in a LEAN, JIT environment.
Training on or experience with Autocad and Unigraphics is a plus.
